The project was founded in 2004 by Norwegian music industry professional, Tore Lande (who relaunched The Sex Pistols internationally in the 70’s after the band was banned in the UK).

The main rules of the contest are: sing two original songs LIVE in 8 minutes. All the national finalists meet at the Annual GBOB World Final  (organized in a different world metropolis each year).

In 2015, 700 musicians from six different European nations participated in the 9 regional Semifinals of the GBOB România competition. The National Final was broadcast LIVE on two national TV Stations (Hit Music Channel and VTV Romania) and online through

In 2016, of the 60 bands that have signed up so far, we have artists participating from 5 European countries and China… and the Bulgarian band, Eufobia, is qualified in the 2016 GBOB Romania National Final.

Through Awards given by active professionals in the Romanian Music Industry, from all corners of our country, GBOB România is the most open and widespread music competition in our country. In 2015 we broke a national All-Time record for Awards given to bands by any music competition (in the 10 stages of the competition, 29 Judges handed out 56 Awards to 40 different Live Bands).

All participating Artists get promoted from the moment they’ve signed up at an international level and have the chance to represent their country at the GBOB World Final (as a foreign act, coming from a country where GBOB is not currently being organized, you may qualify as a WildCard Band, alongside the Romanian Winner to represent YOUR country at the GBOB World Final: you need to take care of your own transport costs, but get accommodations and a warm meal for the duration of your stay in Athens, Greece in 2017).

Our next Battle is the GBOB ARTmania Semifinal, Thursday, July 28th.

Katatonia and Pain Of Salvation are headlining ARTmania Festival Sibiu 2016

ARTmania Festival Sibiu opens a new page in the history of rock events and confirms for the first time in the Large Square of Sibiu Katatonia on Friday and Pain Of Salvation on Saturday, during 29 and 30 July 2016.

Katatonia comes back in Romania, playing for the first time at ARTmania Festival, Friday, July 29. Their 10th studio album, entitled ’The Fall Of Hearts’, is set for release on the 20th of May 2016. “This album is probably everything we unknowlingly ever dreamed of to release. It’s a bleak but adventurous journey through our elements, we haven’t held back, we have pushed to get forward and backward in the ever spiralling night of our musical legacy.”

“The Fall Of Hearts” was recorded in Stockholm’s Studio Gröndahl & Tri-lamb Studio, and was self-produced by Anders Nyström & Jonas Renkse. This is the first record to feature new drummer Daniel ’Mojjo’ Moilanen and recently recruited guitarist Roger Öjersson (Tiamat), who came in just in time to sprinkle some blistering solos on the album.

It’s been five years since Pain Of Salvation’s last concert in Romania and the band is pleased to see once again their fans on July 30th, in the Large Square of Sibiu. Their sound is characterised by powerful, accentuated guitar work, broad vocal range, abrupt switching between heavy and calm passages, intense syncopation, and polyrhythmic experimentation.

Another trademark of the band is that each album is a concept album. Some of the topics addressed in the band’s albums include war and its effect on family and humanity, environmental issues, such as nuclear power, the forming of the individual, and the nature of God, humankind, and existence.

Since 2015, Pain Of Salvation have started working on their new material release, which will be a concept album that goes back to the band’s harder and heavier roots of the early 2000’s. Daniel Gildenlöw stated: “We have a few gigs on the horizon, but in all honesty, our true focus is on the next studio album right now. We have very creative writing sessions, and we can’t wait for the fans to hear the new material! You’ll see a hungry and strong Pain of Salvation, confidently returning to a harder and heavier form, musically. Still, as always, without losing the intimacy and originality that has been the trademark of the band ever since the first album.”
At the same time as new material is being elaborated, Pain of Salvation are also wrapping up work on some special live and DVD recordings, which will see the light of day in 2016.

More details about the programme and other organizational details will soon be announced.

Below is the press release posted by the german band on their official website and this affects also our plans:

CREMATORY / SPV News – Press Release February 28th, 2015
CREMATORY release new live video, the band take off 2015 and will return in 2016!

CREMATORY will take a break from all their live-activities in 2015, to focus a 100% on the new album and it´s recording. All planed shows for 2015 had to be postponed to 2016, as in addition two of the band-members are realigning in business-matters.

But CREMATORY won´t laze around, they started writing new songs in January and will enter the studio from the mid of May till the end of June for the new album, which will be released early 2016 right in time for their 25th anniversary. The successor of the high-flying Chart-Album “Antiserum” will include some surprises and will leave the fans more than happy!

CREMATORY just released their third video from the latest album “Antiserum”: “Virus”! It was recorded at the legendary Wacken Open Air in 2014! You can see the video here: [2]

To span their live inactivity this year, the band decided to release the whole Wacken show as a DVD, including private backstage footage, detailed interviews, footage from their rehearsal room and the three
videoclips from “Antiserum”!

The yet untitled DVD will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on the 17th of June in Scandinavia, 19th of June in Germany, 22nd of June in Europe, the USA release date will be announced soon.
Believe in you and especially in CREMATORY!”

ARTmania Festival cast another positive spell upon Sibiu

Sunday, August 10, 2014, the ninth edition of ARTmania Festival closed by marking a new record for the number of events. 25 live music concerts organised in four different venues, built up for all kind of rockers: symphonic, heavy, doom and black metal, post-rock, progressive, experimental and alternative rock.
More than ten thousand fans enjoyed the three concert days during the ARTmania Festival, a bit crowded in the Vampires’ Den, lighter in the Large Square and fewer in the Brukenthal Palace and Altemberger House interior courtyards or Gong Theatre, the indoor venue used for back-up during the tricky weather days.

Alongside the most active partners of this edition, Brukenthal National Museum, ASTRA Museum and ASTRA Library, Tuborg, Jack Daniel’s, Naturlich, Carturesti, Dracula International Film Festival and a festival team with more than 180 people crew, ARTmania Festival boosted one unique experience to a very wide range of audiences targeted for every area: Vampires’ Den, Large Square, Altemberger and Brukenthal Stage.
The newest and taboo venue for this year was the Vampires’ Den, the final transformation of an industrial complex called ‘Balanta’ into one unique festival experience, ARTmania style. A big challenge, much appreciated, but nonetheless, very criticized.

With very opposed opinions, the offer was much wider than expected and our thirsty vampires hunting for culture did not have too much time to analyse. On the main stage, 14 live concerts were taking place, compatible with the lounge area where the crowd enjoyed movies, read books or played board games, learned tattoo ‘do it yourself style’ and got horror movie style make-ups, played with Happy Color and went shopping for music, clothes and accessories, all specially selected for core fans of the festival.
The highlights of this edition included some unexpected acts for the Romanian events market and unforgettable for the ARTmania Festival Sibiu attendees: Peter Hammill (VdGG) and 65daysofstatic, part of the new Post-Rock stage developed this year. The crowd responded full of enthusiasm to Therion’s and Eluveitie’s shows, meantime thousands of people listened to Alternosfera in the Large Square, the free entrance venue that promoted alternative rock this year.

Next year, the festival is celebrating its tenth edition during the first week of August with the festival’s passes covering the full events range, with extra options only for the seated events. First presale is already online on for 75 lei (18 euros), until the end of October.    For more information please check and ARTmania Festival is co-financed by the Local City Council through the Sibiu Municipality.
